Real Time ultrasound is equipment used by the Physiotherapist to assess contraction of the deep stabilising muscles of the spine (core muscles). It is like the equipment used by Obstetricians to assess the foetus in the womb. Physiotherapists use it to accurately assess the timing and endurance of the deep spinal stabilisers. It enables specificity of muscle retraining and provides visual feedback of the muscle performance which can assist the patient in effectively engaging their core muscles.
There is significant scientific evidence to support the efficacy of core conditioning in improving movement quality. Real time ultrasound has been demonstrated to more effectively facilitate core conditioning.
It can assist with the following : –
Low back pain
Pelvic floor exercises

Recurrent leg conditions ( hip, knee ,ankle )
